Singapore Polytechnic Adventurers (SPA) is dedicated to our love for outdoor adventure. From rock climbing to kayaking to abseiling, we aim to embark on exciting adventures that promise lifelong friends and fulfilment like no other, while constantly learning and growing as individuals, together.
SP Aikido
Aikido is a form of Japanese martial art, developed in the 1920s by Morihei Ueshiba Sensei. It is a martial art that focuses on harmonising with your opponent to bring peaceful resolutions to conflicts and using the opponent’s energy to gain control of them. Its roots lie in classical Japanese jujutsu and sword styles. Like judo, a close cousin, aikido depends on balance and timing rather than striking. SP Aikido Club exists to cultivate the inner strength of individuals as well as to teach proper etiquette and behaviour for SP students.
SP Archery
Archery is the art, sport, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. In SP, we do it as a competitive sport and also as a form of recreation. With SP Archery, you will learn the fine art of training the mind and body to aim and shoot with precision.

SP Badminton
Badminton is a game of using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across the net. We play singles or doubles. At SP Badminton, we are passionate about our game, we train together to achieve our goals as individuals and as a team. If pushing yourself to the edge to your limits and overcoming challenges as a team are what you are looking for, then SP Badminton is for you!
SP Basketball
Basketball is one of the world’s most popular and widely-viewed sports. It is a team sports where two teams of five players each oppose each other by shooting the ball through the opponent’s hoop while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. At SP Basketball, members will be able to learn all the skills you need to compete and be the best at the sport.
SP Bowling
Bowling is a worldwide sport for anybody of any age or gender, and we welcome you participate recreationally or competitively. At SP Bowling, we have 3 stages of learning: Learn-To-Bowl for the beginners and casual bowlers, Development for the members who want more training and School Team for the members who are interested to participate in bowling competitions. Whichever level you are, there’s something for you!
SP Canoe Polo
Canoe Polo is a fast contact team sport that combines water polo, basketball and canoeing!
The members in the SP Canoe Polo Club train extensively in canoeing and ball handling skills while emphasizing on solid coordination and teamwork.
SP Canoe Sprint
SP Canoe Sprint is a competitive kayaking team where we participate in sprint and marathon races on flat water. A team by chance, but family by choice, we are a team of tough and driven teenagers from different backgrounds, standing as one, and striving towards the same goal. We train hard together by pushing and motivating one another. We also enjoy and have fun together after our trainings.
SP Cyclists
The SP Cyclists Club has two components; the competitive and the leisure. We host regular leisure riding activities as well as participate in many road cycling competitions and events. Whichever way you choose to ride, there’s something for you!
SP Darts Club
Darts is a game which requires absolute focus and great mental strength. Darts can be fun for recreational players yet exhilarating for competitive players. It trains one’s strategic thinking and ability to perform under pressure. We are proud to be the first local institution to have darts as an official CCA.
SP Dragon Boat
Dragon boating is an intensive sport that requires strict discipline, enormous strength, great stamina as well as team coordination. In order to prepare our members for the arduous dragon boat races, we go through extremely rigorous training. We require dedication and commitment to the sport and team.

SP Fencing
Fencing is a sport in which two competitors fight using ‘rapier-style’ swords, called the foil, the épée, and the sabre; winning points are made through the contact with an opponent. The sport requires and grows the practitioner’s agility, grace, strength and resilience. At the SP Fencing Club, we are committed to train our members in the art of fencing and take their skills to new heights!
SP Floorball
Floorball is a popular variation of the sport known as floor hockey. While it is similar to Ice Hockey, Floorball uses light and specialised equipment with rules that promote safety and skill. If you want to be part of this fast-paced and fun sport, join our training to improve on your stick skills and control and also have the opportunities to play competitively!
SP Handball
Handball is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outfield players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. At SP Handball, we are trained in the various handball techniques and physical training to compete in varsity and inter-school competitions.
SP Hockey
Hockey is an eleven aside game in which two teams play against each other by trying to manoeuvre the ball into the opponent’s goal using a hockey stick. As we train and bond, we grow as a team and aim to cultivate the team spirit of perseverance and excellence in sportsmanship.
SP Judo
Judo (柔道 jūdō, meaning “gentle way”) was created as a physical, mental and moral pedagogy in Japan. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. As an Olympic sport or a combat form, the SP Judo Club values training both the body and the spirit. We believe learning throwing techniques and proper forms are just as important as cultivating a member’s value of perseverance and discipline.
SP Karate
Out of the many variations of Karate-Do (way of karate) in the world, SP Karate Club focuses on the Goju-Ryu style (hard and soft). We chose Goju-Ryu Karate-Do as it is meant to not only improve the strength and techniques of a person, but also our will power and fighting spirit. The goal of SP Karate is to toughen bodies and cultivate the skills of our members, while building a resilient character and a strong fighting spirit.
SP Kenjutsu
SP Kenjutsu (SPKC) is a Japanese sword-based martial art using the Katana, or Japanese long sword as its main weapon of focus. Kenjutsu is a term for “the way of the sword”, adopting Nihonto Do, which signifies it as an art form more than a basic combative martial arts. We aim to develop an individual not just in the physical aspect, but also to hone mental endurance and sharpen one’s sense.
SP Krav Maga
Krav Maga, a self-defence and fighting system developed for the Israeli military, is derived from a combination of different martial art techniques. At SP Krav Maga, we are intent on training our members in all the simple but extremely effective techniques adapted for street fighting while creating a fun and enriching experience. So whether you want to learn self-defence skills or just have a kickass workout, SP Krav Maga is the way to go!
SP Lifesavers
Lifesaving is not a sport nor a recreational activity. It is a lifelong skill that is rewarding and necessary. With people depending on you when in danger, you are often the only thing between them and harm. We teach the life skills that arm you with the training and knowledge to save a life in a crisis situation. We are a team whose focus is not on trophies and medals but on human relations and life.
SP Mind Sports
The SP Mind Games believes that Chinese Chess, Go and International Chess are excellent strategy board games to train and cultivate a person’s mental capabilities. These games test and develop a player’s strategic thinking and their ability to think quickly under pressure. Friends pit against each other to polish their skills and prepare themselves for competitions.
SP Mixed Martial Arts
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) takes the best from each martial art form and synergises it into a unique sport. With gaining popularity in big competitions such as UFC and One FC, SP MMA contributes to the scene by training our members in many different techniques from a variety of martial arts, such as grappling and submission techniques, and help them cultivate their own unique style of MMA.
SP Muay Thai
Muay Thai is also known as the Art of Eight Limbs due to heavy usage of fists, elbows, knees and shins. It was developed several hundreds of years ago as a form of close-combat that utilizes the entire body as a weapon. At SP Muay Thai, we seek to train our members into skilled and responsible practitioners of the art. Rigorous body conditioning regimes are necessary to raise the body’s toughness and fitness as well as to train the mind for discipline and strength.
SP Netball
Derived from the early versions of basketball, netball is now its own sport with a history over a hundred years. Traditionally, netball was played among women and it was seen as empowering women through sports but it has grown in popularity across the world and throughout the decades. At SP Netball, all players undergo rigorous trainings to strengthen the physical body as well as to raise our skills to competitive levels.
SP Pool
One thing that SP Pool most closely associates with is fun. We believe in having a good time with friends while training our skills. Committed to strengthening and deepening our friendship as we are at sharpening our skills at the pool table, we take pride in having fun while training for competitions.
SP Rock Climbers
Rock Climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport with a whole host of advantages. From the euphoria of overcoming a tough climb to the adrenaline rush you get as you push yourself to the limit, it is what it feels like to be truly alive!
At SP Rock climbers (SPRC), we go through in-depth training – instilling in you the proper climbing techniques and usage of specialized climbing gear – to ensure that you are having fun while staying safe. We also attend many climbing competitions and explore the outdoor natural climbs – all as one SPRC!
SP Rugby
If the regular sports just aren’t enough of a challenge for you, then the SP Rugby Club might just be the CCA for you. Out of all the forms of football, rugby is definitely on the list as one of the toughest out there. Rugby focuses on running with the distinctive oval ball in hand or kicking it towards the goal to score a point while avoiding getting tackled. In SP Rugby, we condition our members through intense physical conditioning and football techniques to strengthen both body and mind.
SP Sailing
In SP Sailing Club (SPSC), we sail both competitively and leisurely. We train our members to be prepared in all aspects of sailing to unleash their full potential and perform the best. Currently, we are the only polytechnic in Singapore that offers sailing as a CCA. Hence, we compete at varsity level which is 1 level above what other CCAs offer.
We own a diverse collection of watercraft; varying from SB20s, Lasers and Picos. Freshies also complete their Basic Sailing Course (BSC) and become proficient sailors. Leisure sailing trainings also comprise of expeditions. Some of recent achievements includes winning the inter-tertiary competition in 2019.
SP Sanda
A Chinese hand-to-hand self-defence system and combat sport, Sanda in a nutshell is a fusion of traditional Kung Fu and modern kickboxing techniques developed by the Chinese military as an all-rounded martial art. The goal of SP Sanda is to not only educate its members in Sanda techniques but also in its associated principles. Values such as perseverance, self-discipline and confidence are rigorously instilled into members so that they will utilise Sanda in a non-violent manner.
SP Shooting
First off, SP Shooting Club is not anything like the shooting scenes you see in Call of Duty or The Bourne Identity. Well, maybe a tiny bit… But for the most part, handling an air weapon is about accuracy, discipline, and strength.
SP Shooting Club places high importance on basic gun safety, such as locking the firearm when not in use, as well as the correct ways to hold and aim the firearm. We hold practice sessions to raise our accuracy and confidence for the annual and quarterly shooting competitions.
SP Silat
Silat is a form of martial art that has a rich and vast history originating from more than a thousand years ago. There are hundreds of different styles that focus on areas such as strikes, joint manipulations, and bladed/blunt weaponry. And the goal of SP Silat is to inculcate into its members a wide variety of techniques that will prepare them for any situation, from self-defence to competitions or even performances.
SP Skates
Don’t know how to skate? Don’t worry! SP Skates will teach you proper tricks and techniques you need to know in order to navigate while wearing inline skates. More advanced skaters will get to learn special elements of skating such as the freestyle slalom skating, where you do tricks while manoeuvring around a straight line of cones. Discipline and good understanding of your body are essential to enjoying the sport.
SP Soccer
The formula for success is made up of discipline, teamwork and dedication, and that applies both on and off the field. To live up to the prestige of the sport, SP Soccer always give a 120% in all their trainings, forging themselves into true soccer players with the skills they learn and growing as individuals with the values they embrace.
SP Softball
Softball is a variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field with very similar rules. At SP Softball, our teams go through a training regime where they learn the skills and techniques to excel on the field, as well as the importance of sportsmanship and strong teamwork.
SP Squash
At SP Squash, we are all about playing hard and working hard. Constantly challenging ourselves, we train rigorously to improve our techniques and stamina. We also take fun seriously while improving our health and fitness. At SP Squash, training for competitions is just as valuable as the friendships we build.
SP Strength Athletics
It doesn’t matter who you were before you enter SP Strength Athletics (SPSA), what matters is what you become. We are more than just a gym or a training programme. We are passionate about raising the capabilities of our bodies to the absolute limit. Our training regimens and body conditionings are definitely not easy, but the reward of becoming physically fit is worth it. SPSA will provide you with all the proper training and mentoring you need in order to reach your goals.
SP Swimming
A life without passion is not a life. Swimming is just as much about commitment as it is a skill. Fortunately, SP Swimming is a CCA group on campus dedicated to train its members to prepare them for competitions as well as cultivate their passion. Our training sessions aim to inculcate members all the necessary swimming styles, techniques and the proper exercises that they will need to excel in all competitions and the values they will need to be successful, both as a swimmer and in life.
SP Table Tennis
At SP Table Tennis Club, we see table tennis as both a competitive sport as well as a platform for people to bond over fun matches. If you have the passion, you are just who we are looking for! If you want to grow your table tennis skills and challenge yourself in competitions, then SP Table Tennis will train with you every step of the way. If you want to make friends and bond with others over a game of table tennis, then we are always open to having a good time!
SP Taekwondo
Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art that places emphasis on kicking techniques, specialising in Kyorugi (sparring), Poomsae (pattern) and Demonstration. SP Taekwondo is sanctioned by the Singapore Taekwondo Federation and is recognized under the World Taekwondo Federation. We are a close knitted family that welcomes existing practitioners of Taekwondo and newbies who are willing to commit and learn the art.
SP Tchoukball
Tchoukball is basically half netball, half handball and completely awesome. A non-contact sport (in other words no pushing or intercepting opponents) with 7 players on each team, players score points by bouncing the balls off the trampolines on each end of the court. Whether you are a sports buff or a newbie, you are guaranteed to enjoy the game as you find yourself bouncing off SP Tchoukball’s fun-filled matches!
SP Tennis
SP Tennis caters for anyone who is keen in the sport. The recreation team is for members who want to enjoy a cool, casual and fun game of tennis while bonding with friends. Those who strive to excel in the sport may join the development team where members go through rigorous training. If you thrive in competitions, please join our school team! Besides POL-ITE competitions, our school team members also take part in external competitions throughout the year. So come pursue your interest in tennis with us!
SP Adventurers
Touch football is a variant of American football in which the basic rules are similar to those of the mainstream game (called “tackle football” for contrast), but instead of tackling players to the ground, the person carrying the ball needs only be touched by a member of the opposite team to end a down.
Touch football is a demanding sport that requires players to be in top physical condition as well as has a sharp and quick mind that can react reflexively to changing situations. We also participate in many competitions to test our skills and improve ourselves further. But the most important thing about SP Touch Football is the dedication to grow ourselves in the sport.
SP Track & Field
From the Ancient Olympics Games in Greece to the modern Olympics today, Track & Field has come a long way. The sport consists of running, jumping and throwing events – all common human physical expression refined and taken to the highest levels. At the SP Track & Field Club, we are dedicated to preparing our members for all events through rigorous training sessions designed to improve their athleticism.
SP Ultimate (Frisbee)
Ultimate Frisbee is an exciting sport that is simultaneously intensive and also a ton of great fun. In essence, the sport involves players throwing and catching flying discs (Frisbees) in the end zone while avoiding the opposing team to score. Ultimate Frisbee requires plenty of physical effort as the handling, accuracy, reaction/reflexes and teamwork are important factors attributing to winning a match. At SP Ultimate Frisbee, members are trained to stay on their toes while having fun!
SP Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport, two teams of six, that is played internationally and is a recognised Olympic event. The complete rules are extensive but in short, a team serves the ball and attempts to ground it into their opponent’s side of the court, who subsequently defends and serves the ball back. SP Volleyball prepares its members for competitions by training their stamina, endurance and reflexes in addition to the basic and advanced skills needed.
SP Water Polo
A sport that is easy to learn but tough to master, water polo is also the sport enjoyed by all. Water polo games are done in four rounds where two teams of players attempt to score by throwing the ball into their opponent’s goal.
As the sport is a fusion of rugby and swimming, players are tested in their accuracy, handling, strength and endurance as well as their ability to react on the spot to hectic and always-changing conditions in the pool. But most importantly are the players’ teamwork and how well they work together. To prepare its members for these epic matches, SP Water Polo cultivates their skills and strengthens their bonds with one another.
SP Wing Chun
Wing Chun (traditional Chinese: 詠春) is a traditional Southern Chinese Kung Fu martial art specializing in close range combat. Both effective in combat and elegant in its teachings, Wing Chun focuses on the user’s positioning, timing and reading the opponent in order to use the opponent’s own strength against them. The techniques of Wing Chun heavily revolves around the user’s centreline – using it to ground your balance, protect yourself and add more power behind your strikes.
SP Wushu
Wushu is both a martial art and a full-contact sport that originated from the traditional Chinese martial arts. We train our members in the various techniques of the Sanda aspect of Wushu, a combat practical side that is used in self-defence. We also learn about the Taolu aspect of Wushu, which is more stylistic as the techniques are often more visually impressive for use in judging competitions and performances.
